Match Stick is a Yemeni play written and directed by Amr Gamal. The Play tells the story of 3 age stages of a girl named "Amal" and the violence practiced against her during each age stage, through a number of characters such as her father, her mother and her old-age husband. The play discussed bold issues that Yemeni society usually avoids discussing, especially on the stage. Thorny issues such as child rape, girls marrying for Qat debts, verbal and physical violence in the marital relationship and child marriage. Amal disappears in mysterious circumstances and all accusations are exchanged about who was the reason for the disappearance of Amal, and from here the story goes to bring us back to the past and the viewer learns how each of the characters in the play contributed to pushing Amal to escape. The play takes the form of a trial to confront an entire community involved in violence against women. This play was first performed on October 3, 2011, in Aden city. The play is starring: Sali Hamadah, Fatima Abdel-Qawi, Fouad Howaidi and Ahmed Abdullah Hussein. The play translation into English by: Noha Sultan. The play was produced by the Netherlands government in partnership with the Future Partners Foundation.
